Old Fashioneds are one of mine and my husband's favorite (if not favorite) cocktail. I love how classic they are, but I also love how you can put your own modern spin on them. We had the classic version served at our wedding as one of our signature cocktails (other being French 75). Today I'm sharing with you a modern version with a spring-twist.
The classic has four ingredients. Bourbon, orange, angostura bitters and sugar. For this version I swapped the orange for these fun little kumquats. Similar in taste to orange, they are a little more bitter. I also added strawberries which pair well with kumquats and bourbon.
The recipe is written for all of the ingredients to be muddled together and served as is. If you'd prefer not to have the chunks of fruit in your drink (Brad typically isn't a fav), feel free to strain into a fresh glass with ice!
Enjoy one on your patio tonight!
