Happy Hump Day! Or as I prefer to call it... Happy Whiskey Wednesday! My girlfriends and I loved to celebrate Whiskey Wednesday in college. Although then Whiskey Wednesday consisted of straight shots of Jameson. (Earmuffs, mom). Now I cheers to the week being half done with a whiskey-inspired cocktail. (Jameson shots are reserved for the weekend.)
This cocktail brings together Woodford Reserve bourbon, simple syrup, fresh lemon juice, muddled blackberries, topped with Prosecco and garnished with edible flowers. It has a bourbon kick but is sweetened with the simple syrup and fruit. My boyfriend, who doesn't like sparkling wine, even loved this cocktail. And I can guarantee if you're not usually a bourbon or whiskey fan this drink is still for you! Woodford Reserve is an amazing bourbon. They are operated by Brown-Forman Distiller Corporation based in Louisville. This is the only distillery to use copper pot stills in the distillation process. No distillery has used copper pots stills for this process since before Prohibition. All throughout school I worked for Brown-Forman as a promotional model for a handful of their brands including Woodford Reserve, Jack Daniels, Korbel champagne, Finlandia vodka, Little Black Dress wine, El Jimador tequila, Southern Comfort, and Tuaca. This was one of my favorite jobs because not only did I learn a TON about the brands and distillation processes, but I essentially got paid to party.
A lot of people confuse Prosecco with Champagne. Both are sparkling white wines, however Champagne comes from France and is made from Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, or Pinot Noir grapes and Prosecco comes from Italy and is made from Glera grapes. They are also made by different processes and have different flavor elements. Prosecco tends to be lighter than Champagne.
To make this cocktail, simply mix together simple syrup, lemon juice, muddled blackberries, and Woodford Reserve in a shaker. Shake and strain into champagne flute. Top with Prosecco and edible flowers. Cheers!
